Over the past decade, the Nickel Plate District in Fishers, Indiana has been reimagined into a thriving destination where Hoosiers live, work, and connect. Browning Day is proud to have been involved in shaping this transformation. From revitalized trails and housing to civic anchors and wellness-driven communities, our design solutions have helped unlock the district’s full potential.

Nickel Plate Trail | Preserving the Past, Connecting the Future
The Nickel Plate Trail reimagines a historic rail corridor as a vibrant public space, fostering connection, recreation, and community engagement. A centerpiece of our contribution was the preservation of the existing train depot structure. By blending historic elements with modern amenities, we ensured the Nickel Plate Trail became a seamless and engaging part of Downtown Fishers’ evolving fabric.
Nickel Plate Station Apartments | Elevated Downtown Living
In collaboration with CRG Residential and Browning Investments, Browning Day contributed to the development of Nickel Plate Station, a mixed-use project that introduced 237 high-end apartments and 10 townhomes, retail space, and a public parking garage to downtown Fishers. This project not only increased housing options but also boosted local commerce by attracting new businesses to the area.
A meaningful component of this project was the preservation and restoration of two of the city’s oldest commercial buildings – once the heart of downtown commerce. Carefully restored and woven into the modern development, these buildings now stand as anchors of authenticity, honoring community heritage while creating opportunity for renewed engagement and vitality. Their restoration reflects our belief that thoughtful design can bridge eras, carrying forward the character of the past into a future full of possibility.
First Internet Bank | A Headquarters in the Heart of the City
Anchoring the south side of the Nickel Plate District, First Internet Bank’s headquarters reflects both the evolution of the district and the community’s vision for connected, forward-thinking development. First Internet Bank engaged Browning Day to conceptualize a corporate headquarters that would support their strategic growth while enhancing their connection to the community.

CityView | Fostering Connection and Wellness
CityView, a public-private partnership with the City of Fishers, is planned to bring luxury apartment homes, with first-floor commercial space, and a parking structure to Nickel Plate District. With 55+ residents in mind, we focused on promoting healthy living, convenience, and community-driven programs. Construction is underway with completion expected Spring of 2027.
The transformation of the Nickel Plate District is a testament to the power of purposeful design and strong public-private partnerships. Through thoughtful integration of residential, commercial, and recreational space, Browning Day has helped position the Nickel Plate District as one of Indiana’s most vibrant urban destinations – and we’re excited to see what’s next.
